Ward Off the Bugs

When you have a picnic outside you are in nature's turf. And as we know nature is full of many amazing wonders such as insects and bugs. Bugs are fascinating little creatures, but they are unwelcome guests when it comes to picnics. To keep them from crashing your party you'll have to keep a few do's and don'ts in mind. Let's start with the don'ts.

  1. Don't wear heavy perfumes and colognes.

  2. Don't wear bright colors.

  3. Don't leave nearby trash bins open.

  4. Don't sit in close proximity to standing water, ponds, lakes or soggy, wet grass.

Now for the do's.

  1. Do apply your favorite mosquito repellant before the picnic.

  2. Do clean spills immediately.

  3. Do keep your food and beverages covered as much as possible using a clean napkin.

  4. Do tie strips of a dryer sheet to a small portable fan and turn on to deter the flies and bees.

  5. Do have your lawn treated for spiders and ants if using your backyard for picnics.

  6. Do spray the picnic area down with repellant or essential oils (lemon-peppermint scent) at least 15 minutes before setting up your picnic. Also, try sprinkling crushed peppermint leaves in the grass surrounding your picnic and decorating your table with lemon halves.

Don't let pests ruin your picnic. Be prepared for them.
